Indoors, there have been sowings of garlic chives and dill, and a second sowing of ordinary chives after the first lot failed to germinate. The peppers and chillies are sprouting here and there as well, including one or two that I’d previously written off as goners. I’ve just been given a few Hungarian Hot Wax pepper seeds, and will sow those into a windowsill propagator the second I pick up some more potting compost.
Outside, it’s been warm and sunny during the day but there have been cold, clear nights, so I’ve sown these under a cloche just in case:
- Chard (Lucullus)
- Kohl Rabi (Purple Vienna)
- Lettuce (All The Year Round, and Little Gem)
- Radish (Saxa – allegedly cold tolerant)
- Spinach (Matador)
- Spring onion (White Lisbon)
- Turnip (Purple Top Milan)
The contents of the mini greenhouse were all sown during the winter months, and we might have some pak choi, Pizzo mustard leaves, baby leaf salad and coriander to eat very soon. The rocket and mizuna from November have been moved to the great outdoors, and are already growing away like weeds and being put into salads.
There’s plenty left to do this month but I’ve used up all the home made compost on the squash and pumpkin beds, and the things I’m planning on growing in pots will have to wait until I’ve managed to source some more.
How’s your garden growing this month? Been busy?
